as we arrived paris, we attended the show of commuun. the location was even more spectacular as the clothes - at the "docks en seine" - next to the river. it's warm and sunny in paris, just beautiful and the show happened during the sunset. i liked the hair of the models, the look was undone and they had some red colour in it...

i almost forgot to write the story about wayoo bags... but it seams that summer is still here! and also these wonderful bags can also be worn in wintertime! i am happy to wear one of these handmade bags by the indians of the wayuu-tribe, who are living in goajira, located between columbia and venezuela. each bag is made by hand and unique. the inspiration of the designs are taken from the stars, nature, animals, and even their dreams. the colours of the bags are wonderful and very colorful. the vision of the wayuu is that we care and appreciate nature and their treasures, and the work of the latin american natives. there are also projects going on to help the minorities in this country. as i really adore these bags, i helped katherine with a little pr. she brought this wonderful craft to switzerland, her grandfather himself was a wayuu. in the us, stars like shakira and katy perry are wearing the bags. and here, its djane mahara mc kay and model and presenter anouk manser who felt in love with wayuu.... uuuuuuuuuuh... so, when do you get your wayoo bag?

the fashion show of my ex intern caroline busch and the other students was very professional. to the choreography and - as usual - a fine music selection - by yannick aellen, they showed their collections, which impressed me a lot. in the beginning there was the ETH showing some "wearable computing lab." clothes, which react with sensors to the movements of the person. the challenge was to create the clothes that are also wearable. have a look...was fun to look at! for the collections of the students i really liked the very feminine collection of edgar balseca, the funky clothes of carmen michel and of course, caroline busch showed some very wearable pieces with a rock attitude. when the models turned they posed quickly for a picture - very good idea! i also liked the models and their hair-style a lot!

this friday it's the diplomfashionshow of the swiss textile school. my first intern, caroline busch, is finishing the school she attended two years. she is showing her interpretation of the topic "identity", which is a big theme nowadays. the collection is a chance for all the students to fulfill their dreams, and to combine their own beliefs with the reality.
i'm looking foreward to her collection and of course to all the other ones. famous choreographer yannick aellen is producing the show with professional swiss models.

MICHAEL MICHALSKY FOR ARIEL "CITY STYLE - BECAUSE YOU LOVE IT CLEAN"

yesterday was a small one day adventure for me. i left switzerland very early for a short trip to düsseldorf to see german designer michael michalsky's latest work – the result of the third collaboration with detergent manufacturer ariel.

before we checked in at sign-deck, at the top of one of the skyscrapers, we had a few minutes left to get to know the neighbourhood 'medien-hafen' which definitely was the perfect place to hold the presentation, since it only seemed to consist of showrooms, stylish restaurants, and fancy hotels.

all the bloggers and journalists fitted in perfectly of course. after being welcomed so nicely we got to go on to the important part of the day: the presentation. as the title indicated, the collection's theme was urban wear. As someone who is always travelling to different cities in many countries around the world, michalsky got inspired by a few of his favourites – paris, london, moscow, berlin and shanghai. rather than taking on latest street style trends of those cities, he chose typical pieces to create five wearable outfits for everyday life. a trenchcoat for rainy london weather, a quilted jacket for cold moscow... simple cuts, easy washable materials like cotton and nylon and diffident colours. as a high point, lily becker presented the london dress with shanghai coat. it was proof, that every piece is easy to combine and at the same time the finale of the show.

my personal high point of course was my short interview with the designer:

beautiful collection mr michalsky. every outfit stands for one of your chosen cities – did you get your inspiration from the local street styles?
there's the typical parisienne look, I'm often in shanghai and see how the people dress there...
then the london style which is defined by the weather, so there is a trenchcoat.

which is your favourite outfit?
all of them! i already limited myself to those cities. all pieces are favourites of mine.

more and more men wash their clothes themselves. is a men's collection planned for the future?
no, not at the moment but for the future, i can picture everything. why not..

what is the difference between the ariel/michalsky and the michalsky client.
since i use different materials for the ariel collection than for my own, the price range is different and there are a lot more clients for the ariel collection. but since the motto of my label is real clothes for real people that's exactly my target. it's for many people not for an elitist group of buyers.

did you have to restrict yourself in terms of material choices?
i didn't have to restrict myself, I used the most beautiful ones which are in this appropriate price range. cotton twill, gabardine, nylon.. everything that I use for michalsky, too.

if there is a person doing something with her whole heart, it's carol kessler from berne. she is (together with her husband) the organisator of the famous "hangar rockin", an big event for the rockabillies and 50s lovers of all europe. she's also making jewellery and now a few time ago she opened her own vintage store in bern's old city. there is beautiful stuff from the 20s to the 60s: furniture, home decoration, clothes and accessories in the back of the store. so if you're visiting berne, you have to go to the old city of berne anyway and then you'll have to make a stop at carols lovely store!

wow. this collection is amazing. i went to the h&m showroom the get a preview on the upcoming fall/winter collection and i was really surprised by the amount of beautiful accessories and special yet very wearable cuts. there's a lot of leather and fringes, a palette of browns, blues, bordeaux, mint greens and a few patterns. it's all really easy to combine. i guess you can just pick something, throw it on and look dressed. though i love that it's finally summer, i'm really looking forward to see this in stores (and of course get myself some of that sugar). take a look:

swatch sent us a really exciting press release for their recent swatch & art love story project, this time with london-based photographer rankin. i hate to admit it but i first got to know his work when i was watching germany's next topmodel. i didn't like heidi klum nor swatch at that point. but swatch really turned things around with the last couple of releases and my dislike for misses seal couldn't stop me from admiring rankin, so yes...i'm unexpectedly happy about this collaboration.

i had a big fascination about tokyo and japan. when i visited tokyo three years ago, i was overwhelmed of the massive impressions i got in this crazy and big city. i still have friends there.
i was and i still am shocked about what happened in japan march 11th, and i think it's something that everyone should be concerned of, cause it's one of the biggest help sign for our planet! now i heard of the project "tomodachi", which means my friend in japanese. a few people living in tokyo/japan and people who worked in this city created a webshop with lots of cool stuff. a lot of different artists are contributing to this shop such as artist, illustrator and musician robert crumb (fritz the cat) or director, screenwriter and musician michel gondry (eternal sunshine of the spotless mind) and many many more. the whole benefit goes to the japanese red cross. so please visit the page, check the big range of cool stuff and order something!

lacoste l!ve is the new line of lacoste. it's rather club wear than casual, rather sexy than sport. the store is built like a giant dressing room. movable coat stands, a mixture of modern neon lightning and vintage wooden floor make an easy and relaxed atmosphere.

it's the collection that brings colour in to the room. patterned polo shirts, colourful slippers, pants and jackets. here you can get dressed up from head to toe.

when looking for outfits to style an advertising shoot, we came across a wonderful little place in zurich's schipfe area we just had to tell you about. we first caught a glimpse of beautiful old luggage and a wall, packed with colourful scarves when we discovered it was a vintage store. we were already in a hurry but too curious to pass by. thank god!

we met a passionate collector, surrounded by the most beautiful and sometimes delicate vintage pieces.

originally an educated interior decorator, stephan schmidt turned his passion for collecting into a part time job by opening a store in september 2010. In the beginning, the range of goods was only a result of his strolling through fleamarkets - nowadays he's also selling pieces, people bring over: hats, shirts, ties, bags, purses, pottery, lighters, poket knives and even stuffed animals.
vagabunt is a magnet, not only for collectors like schmidt himself, but also for people with a taste for the certain something, with a sense of style and especially young graphic designers and hipsters. if you're looking for an old leathery briefcase, this is the place to go to.

danny schneider, a friend from berne, is a chopper freak. due to his insanity and an accident ten years ago that shut him down, he started to make his own customized bikes. he was driven by creating the perfect bike. and he did it. he created this amazing chopper, inspired by his first bmx-bicycle, with glitter and stars. there is no suprise that the crazy and enthusiastic japanese are the biggest fans of his creation and made him a star there. they invited him to tokyo for the biggest bike show mooneyes and he had to give many autographs there. the bernese jan mühlethaler made a documentary about danny, his passion in customizing bikes, his drivenness that stops him from going insane and about his friends in berne. myself i was fascinated by these guys, who where an inspiration for me in the mid 90s, cause they represented craziness, they were (and most of them still are) big boys which never grew up, and they did things nobody would do like skiing in the middle of the city, walking around with cowboy hats, played attacks of banks in snowboard camps, where we spent time together and firing fireworks in their asses before shows like jackass even existed! the movie is interesting for people who know hard nine, or for those who are interested in bike techniques.

salvador atasoy, shirin abouzaid and simon egger were doing a documentary "thesis 2011" about the students of the school nordwest-switzerland (HGK). they are taking the viewer behind the scenes. the film is showing the collections of the students, and the jury which is talking about them. the fashion school in basel wants to fight against mindless uniformity and is pushing the students individuality. the school is taking their students on an international standard, they should be able to compete in the international fashion scene and express themselves with their individuality.

Dior invited me last week for the launch of their classic fragrance "miss dior chérie". Even though i'm using my favourite perfume "j'adore dior" since years, the lovely people at dior introduced my to the slightly different fragrance miss dior chérie. I must say i loved it too! They also presented the new testimonial of the new campaign: the beautiful and very talented natalie portman! After the world of scents they introduced me to their new lipstick-line, dior addict. The fashion icon kate moss is the new face of dior make-up. Dior couldn't choose a better model to represent their lipstick and make-up line. I absolutely love her, she's so gorgeous! I tried the new addict lipstick in a light pink colour, it was fantastic. The texture is like a blend of gloss and lipstick, very smooth. I could also try the new nailpolish line with a lot of new colours that will be available in stores this march. Of course I choosed the colour red, the make-up artist put a top coat on it that is called "rock coat". The colour turned out dark red at the end, it gives you an edgy touch.

we visited türler for lunch today and we were amazed about this japanese artist who showed how he is doing makie-e. this is a traditional japanese decorative art technique, which is made with laque from a laque-tree (!) which is only growing in east-asia and who has to be at least 10 years old to give this juice. the objects out of wood become many layers of laque (between 20 and 80!!) and each one has to dry up to 8 hours! that means, the work for a jewel case could take 20 years!!! this and the very precise and work makes it to luxury objects and they have their price! they are decorated with cinnabar, ferrite or gold and each object is unique!
amazing also the rest of the jewelery like giant pearls from the south seas. it takes about 20 years to find them! of course they have their price: 1, 6 millions! and some very nice emerald&diamonds from africa.
